Support Small Business on a Budget

Forget Small Business Saturday, it's 2020 & your favorite small business could use some love TODAY. Obvi, if you are able to make a purchase, please do! But for the days we can't, I've journaled a few free, easy Instagram to-dos below that are worth the reminder:

1. SHARE a brand's post: Hit that airplane, boo! Adding a business' post to your story helps a lot more than liking a photo. A like is a cute pat on the back, but a share is like wearing a t-shirt of your favorite brand for 24 hours. We appreciate you wearing that tee - it fits you beautifully!

2. COMMENT with more than a 💛: Comments under 5 words apparently do absolutely nada for IG's algorithm. So if you said something funny or nice in your head when you saw a post, try typing it out next time, and be wordy! Long comments increase a post's engagement for a brand (which ultimately helps a brand's IG account be seen by more & more people, which can ultimately lead to sales!).

3. POST & TAG: dust off your camera. We all have quarantine bodies and overgrown eyebrows, so if selfies aren't in the rotation RN, you can always do what I do and hold that cute handmade goodie in front of a plant or wall and pretend you're a photographer for a hot minute. Then post + TAG that beauty in both the comments & on the photo itself.

PS. Don't feel like you have to buy the latest & greatest from your favorite maker in order to post - photos of your most worn necklace, empty bottle of honey, or candle you've burnt all the way down - all of these are just as powerful as posting about a new purchase.

The past few months, we've all seen more and more of our favorite businesses have to make TOUGH decisions: from laying off employees, moving out of studio spaces to work back at home, or totally closing their doors. It's hard to watch, but I hope you feel empowered to share some light to your favorite small business today! It matters! Don't wait for Small Business Saturday when everybody and their dog's IG account decides to post.

Drop a comment below with any ideas you do to support your favorite business that I've missed! I'm all ears! And while you're at it, give us a follow on Instagram!
